Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy helps the patient to regain as much independence as possible in the activities of daily living, and tasks such as grocery shopping, meal preparation or money management. Teaching the patient less strenuous ways to carry out daily activities, as well as prescribing special equipment designed to make the patient more independent, are important elements of occupational therapy.
NHCs Registered Occupational Therapist assesses the patients abilities, personal goals and the demands of the patients living environment, and then structures an individual treatment program.
Treatment goals are coordinated with the patient, family members and appropriate community resources. Progress is frequently evaluated and coordinated with other members of the health care team.
The occupational therapy program at NHC increases a patients skill and confidence. The NHC therapists work carefully with the patient to plan modifications, equipment and skills needed to return home.
